Hi everyone! I'm a real newbie, lived in Montreal my whole life, never handled a gun before, etc... So bear with me lol.

I looked at the process for applying for the license and all, and I think I get the gist about that... But, where are you allowed to like use a rifle, for example? Can you just drive to like the woods? I mean, I know people hunt and all, I just don't know what the rules are to target practise with a non restricted rifle in like the woods, without a hunting permit?

It all depends on the laws in your area for example you might be the owner of a few acres of wooded land and might not be able to shoot in it depending on the location. On the other hand if you own land say in the middle of nowhere no one really cares if you shoot or not.
You being in Montreal your only option would be at the range. Ruisseau noir outdoor range will allow all (alomost) non restricted (and restricted with your membership card) but it will cost you $15 for rimfire and $25 for centerfire if it stayed the same since i went there. There's another one in repentigny area i think, about the same range and price wise. or the indoor ones all over town but much more costly.

Final word is if you want to shoot freely you will have to get a hunting permit, wait for hunting season and travel to where the games are. OR pay a range fee and enjoy whenever you want.

Hope this helped ;)

Btw, there's a lot of mentors in quebec (montreal area) who might be willing to bring you to the range for your first time, i guess all you have to do is ask in the right forum
