Completely Stripping a CQA

Hello,

Has anyone completely stripped the Norinco CQA? Especially the gas block and ths barrel nut?

Is the gas block impossible to remove and need to be cut?

Isn't it just held by a cross pin (or two)? Hammer them out, and it slides off.

But make sure you hammer them the correct direction - they're tapered pins. And Norc pins are really, really tight.

To be fair I stripped a lower I was trying to sell before the ban. Now its a naked lower...with a trigger lock

Some norcs don't use taper pins, theyr drilled and pins are wire that is sheared off...so uo need to slice the block to cut the pins in half.

Never seen that, all the ones I had were taper pinned and all of the ones I've seen (50 or so) were taper pinned.

That's all I've seen as well.

Some seem to be over-long pins that have the ends peened over like rivets. Makes it impossible to drive them out from either side unless you grind the end flush and figure out which is the small end.

Just want to update this thread. The pins are magically stuck in there. Tried heating, bigger hammer, nothing. Took about 2 hours to cut the damn thing off without damaging the barrel. Other than that, other parts seems to be in good shape.

I am trying to undo the barrel nut on my Norc CQA. So far the nut is winning. Any suggestions.

Ya you could have legally sold the complete gun to my company for a few hundred bucks ad saved yourself all the trouble.

I tried to take a gas block off cq311 barrel...it wasnt pretty. those pins would not move!

There's a few pins, tap them out, you can post pictures and we can guide you

The norcs with the railed forend are not tapered. You can cut a slit down the gas block to releive the pressure but the block is ruined in the process. As for the barrel nut, every one I've ever removed was torqued too tight, they come off, but its like they went one divet too far for the gas tube. Neither is a big deal if the gun never comes apart... honestly pre-ban it made more sense to sell the upper and build a new one.
