well whats the scoop out there on these two?ive looked at a few stores prices are about the same..but for some reason i seem to like the cross bow more.. comments all?

well, if you are gonna be doing alot of spot and stalk in heavily wooded areas id go with the compound because a crossbow is kind of a pain to carry through thick brush. if you are going to be hunting from a stand most the time then it doesnt really matter.

physical ability is an important thing to consider when making the choice. just how long could you hold that bow at full draw if need be?

myself, im 20 and strong enough to hold a compound at full draw for a long time but i chose a crossbow due to a rugby injury from a few years ago. i can only shoot a compound about 5-6 times before my shoulder starts killin me.

i figured it would be a waste of money buying a compound because i wouldnt shoot it much. i now have an exomax and i love it...so accurate its boring to shoot;)

i shoot compound bow and crossbow both are great compound early season and crossbow in cold weather in the snow when you are frozen and would have trouble drawing compound bow.:D :dancingbanana:

Another thing to consider. With a crossbow you can bulk up your cloth and keep warm when you go out on those late season days. Dont have to worry about taking off gloves and the possibilities of your string hitting some clothing.

Buy EXCALIBUR, There is NO equal.

You have to go and shoot both to see what you like. They have there advantages and disadvantages. The crossbows shoot heavier arrows and have heavy pounds, but shoot at the same speeds as compounds (due to the heavy arrows) crossbows are also good if you are having trouble pulling back the string on the compound bows. Compounds I think are a bit lighter, and are easier to maneuver in the bush, and like mentioned before when you get cold sitting in the tree, the bow gets hard to draw back. I like compounds better (as you can tell by my aviator), but that is just me. I would recommend going to an archery shop and shooting all kinds of brands in both. I hope this helps, and good luck!

I'd like to argue that part. Have you ever cocked a 200 - 300 lb crossbow.

Thats the reason they make a LOT of COCKING AIDS

Compounds bows in my opinion require alot more practice. This is by no means a bad thing, I enjoy shooting my bow all year. As for hunting with a compound during cold weather, it is very important to practice with clothing you are going to be wearing will hunting. You will find out if you will have any problems. Something else to keep in mind is that with a compound bow, you should be able to hold your bow at full draw for some time. This is were a cross bow has an advantage. If you have a chance try them both and see what you like. If you choose crossbow you can't beat an EXCALIBUR!

Crossbows certainly do normally have heavier draw weights. However, looking at the crossbow bolts on the easton site, they are of the same materials, diameters and wall thicknesses as eastons normal arrows, but they are much shorter in length. They also use the same broadheads or points as normal arrows. As such, they should be lighter in weight than a comparable arrow for a compound bow?

i have an exomax and it has a 225lb draw weight. i can #### it by hand but because the string is so small it hurts like a sum#####. there are crank type #### aids that you can turn with 1 finger for those who cant #### the bow.

i think he meant a crossbow is great for those who cant hold a compound at full draw ;)

If you like to wear green leotards and pointy hats with a feather and shoot targets get a compound. If you want to hunt get an excalibur.

i wouldnt go further then 30 yards my self ,too many factors . i have a compound bow and a crossbow i like both equal. the compound kinda niec if u build a tree stand between a couple trees becasue u can manuever easier but its takes alot of tuning and practice. i have an exocet and all i do every year is put some wax on the deck and put the string bhack on and its ready to shoot.

i would get the crossbow.

just my 2 cents
good luck

Crossbow. I bought an Excalibur Phoenix and love it. Unfortunately, I'm going to sell it after this season :( . I bought it in hopes that it would be allowed in Bow season. Sadly, thats not gonig to happen anytime soon from what I understand.

Super accurate, powerfull and made in Canada! Not to mention the service you get from Bill T. over at Excalibur. Second to none.

sorry for all the dumb questions:redface: ,,,but
what would be the average distance to be away to make a good clean kill of a deer?

Same distance as any other "bow", about 30 yards

When your get real good you can probably go out to about 50 yards
