Concealed Carrying a 1911

While I do not recommend the practice of carrying a 1911 with the hammer down on a live round, it does appear as though there are those who will insist on the practice. Should you choose to do so, you must understand that this practice is far more hazardous than it is to carry the pistol as designed. When you prepare to fire, #### the pistol with the thumb of the weak hand, rather than with the thumb of the strong hand. Your strong hand should work the safety, hold the gun, and fire it, and not #### the hammer.

As I have said, the 1911 pistol should not be carried this way, and it is unsafe to do so. Cocked and locked, the grip safety will not allow the gun to accidentally fire, even if the safety comes off. If the gun is dropped, the blow to the hammer will be towards the cocked position, not the fire position. In the unlikely event that the hammer does fall forward, meaning that two safeties have been compromised, the half #### notch will prevent the hammer from striking the firing pin.
