- In lalaland, that is Ottawa.
Here is where I let it all hang out.
For those of you who have looked at my profile, the pic was before C-64 became law and I was fighting with my MP and all of the Senate. The pic is from the Ottawa Citizen when I complained about CFC ripping off the good guys. That got a definite reaction from CFC
and now my CGN cover is blown.
So be it.
Now I go back to 1958-60. I was in a small Ontario community with time on my hands so I started to buy #4's from Globe in Montreal, 10 at a time, about $12-14 each. I would strip the fore ends and sell the rifles to the local farm boys south of Hamilton for about $12 over my cost. Wow! I must have sold over 40
I hooked up with a local guy and sold him one. He went one step futher than me. He hacked sawed off the receiver ring and fitted the L-E with a SINGLE PIECE stock, no s**t. No one told him that this could not be done.
When I moved away, he gave me the rifle and I took it to B.C. My first fall out there, I shot 2 whitetails with it. It was accurate and I had cut down a 10 round mag to hold 5 rounds. It was a sweet rifle, and I love a good peep. This rifle is probably floating around the Ottawa Valley. Watch for it!
During these days, I could have bought L-E snipers
with scope boxed for less than $100! But I never had the money. Same with Jungle Carbines. No SMLEs can I remember being available. What went through my hands were all #4's.
Anyway, when I came back east, I ran into hard times and sold the one-piece stocked #4
and bought a virtually new Mk. #5 which would not group worth beans and I eventually sold it. At that trime I picked up the bubbaed SMLE I have posted about.
So here I am with a venerable historic bubbaed SMLE and not a decent Mk.#4 to my name, and only a PO cert.
Please note - I've no intention of getting a PAL, having one is too tempting.
Years ago, an old friend from northern B.C. gave me some iron and said, "remember, those of us who have this stuff now are only custodians for posterity, we are only curators..., and must do our best to pass it on to those who appreciate our heritage."
Pray for me as a reformed repentant bubba.
In my Golden Years, Mr. Rock has decreed that I am a hazard. And Mr. Tory let us down here in the past Ont. election. So sad.
