I was about to rebarrel my 300 winny that used to shoot 1/2 inch 3 shoots at 100 yard.
Fiddled 1 month (bedded the stock, replaced the Bushnell 4200 with Zeiss 3.5-10 x 44, lapped rings, redone all load developpement) to finally suspect rounds run out.

Got my Sinclair concentricity gauge today.
Some rounds have the bullet off about 0.015 ! Sheet.

Time for Redding type S die and Comp seater. Sorry RCBS.

A concentricity gauge is as much important as a chrony for a reloader imho.

Sorry not fair for RCBS. My 300 RUM rounds are well good , in mean 1.5 on the neck (did not measured on the bullets because it shoot so good).

If in doubt, roll a case across a mirror and watch the bullet tip. You can see very small amount of runout. Big amounts are simply scary.
