I was comparing the 44mag and 45 colt on the ammoguide site. It says the case capacity is greater for the 45 colt is larger for the colt but average muzzle velocity and energy is greater for the 44 mag. Wouldn't a greater capacity cartridge allow for a hotter load and greater energy and velocity? It showed a larger average bullet weight was larger for the 44 mag. Is that why the energy and velocities are higher?

The Colt is an old cartridge, originally designed for black powder, hence the large capacity. Neither the cases nor the revolvers are designed for .44 Mag. pressures. If appropriate cases and revolvers are manufactured then a very powerful version is possible - like the .454 Casull.
