Congrats Jerry

Congrats - great article.

Very rare indeed to see someone do something new. So many wildcats are just "put lots of powder behind it" or "change the angle 5 degrees which is so much better", then of course add my name to it ala "Vanity Wildcats". In additon to the cartridge, a new gun system was developed.

I especially like that the path taken was followed with some specific objectives determined beforehand, it didn't just happen. In this case economy was considered, as well as flexiblity and some practical solutions to barrel heating and wear. I'd love to see that econo gun kick the ass of others costing 10X as much, and I think it will. ;)

Thanks guys, it has been alot of fun and the article has certainly raised a few eyebrows. According to the 6mmBR editor, the Mystic has been one of the most read articles for Guns of the week :)

Yep, got the reamers. With an eye to economy, I didn't want to go make up some custom reamer that was very pricey. So I have used two off the shelf reamers to make up the 6.5 Mystic.

The main reamer is a 6.5-08AI with a 40deg shoulder (PTG I think) . Then the throat is cut using a throater by Dave Manson but any throater will work. This is cut to fit your bullet and desired OAL. I prefer the 1.5Deg leade.

A true custom fitted chamber that can adapt to new bullets as they come out.

Alot of mix and match. Kind of justified all the hours spent studying schematics and catalogs. Paid off in a great shooting rifle that really is dirt cheap to reproduce.

The rifle has done well for me at my first F class shoot in Kamloops 300m shoot in Sept. I was shooting F class but off the bench. There was a belly class as well (will have to try that in the 07 season) and an open sight TR class. Lots of great shooters and amazing gear. There is a report in the LR comp forum.

I shot a 749-61X out of a 750-75X to win the F(BR) class and the second highest score of the match (750-65X was the top score). Can't complain about that.

The 6.5 Mystic rifle was very consistent and really saved me a few times cause I guessed on what the wind was doing. The winds did swirl around a bit and caught quite a number of shooters.

The goal was to build an accurate F class rifle that most anyone could afford to create. I feel I have done that. Let's see if others will follow.

Jerry

Nice job. A lot of this is new to me and some of the article was above my head, but it seems as if you broke a few rules and impressed some people along the way. Congrats.

I too enjoyed the article but had a small problem when trying to print a copy. My printer "cut off" the right hand 1/2" or so making for frustrating reading. I know that Precision Rifles is a tad different from Precision Printing. Can anyone offer help or a suggestion? Thanks.
