I have passed both my restricted and non-restricted courses in Ottawa and I am waiting for my official results with my application for license all filled out and ready to go. I have heard good things about Connaught as a shooting range for both pistols and rifles. I am wondering where it is and how I can join so that when I get my license I can have a place to shoot my pistol(s). Anybody know where or who I can call to join and go see the range?

Welcome aboard and welcome to shooting in Ottawa. There are a half-dozen ranges in the immediate vicinity of Ottawa. I don't belong to the DCRA or the NCRRA, but that is because I prefer the style of shooting done at EOHC to Connaught.

If you search the forum for places to shoot in Ottawa, you'll find Connaught, EOHC, Stittsville, Smiths Falls and Grenville. There are a couple of clubs in Quebec that I don't know much about.

I am a person who keeps cash in a safe instead of having a bank account. Owns my truck, has never made payments or have any credit cards. I want to keep my government visibility "footprint" to a bare minimum. Do you get screened, checked, and ultimately registered with local, state and/or federal government just to join a gun club, go to a range or take training classes

From your use of the word "state" I'll assume you're a US citizen.*

In Canada, all lawful gun owners must be registered and must pass the Canadian Fire Arms Safety Course to own rifles and shotguns. To own restricted firearms (handguns, some types of rifles and shotguns so deemed) you must also pass the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course.

To transport your restricted firearms to a club or range, you will also need an Authorization To Transport, typically issued at the Provincial level.

After these requirements are met, what the Clubs track is rather irrelevant. However, clubs and ranges that allow restricted firearms must track member participation.

* assuming you're not a troll or spambot.
