Or loose nut :slap:behind the trigger. Was testing some reloads on my Norc 14 today, 5/20 mag. Youngest son fires off some SA plinking ammo and sudden failure to eject. Then he says he can't get mag in. I find recoil spring guide guide rod protruding into mag well. Quick field strip, put guide and spring back into right place, shoot 3 quick rounds , no problem. Go back to my load testing with 300Savage and son says it's happened again. What have we/I done wrong here. He thinks he is putting mag in "wrong" I think that is impossible. The connector lock slides very freely into and out of position, never noticed before , but it seems to slide real freely back and forth. It's seems to be sliding out during firing, why? why now?(rifle has fired about 500rds now, no problem except loose front sight), how do I fix it? Thanks.

It's not a malfunction. It's a semi-automatic-only rifle that is housed in a stock that was designed for the selective-fire M-14 rifle, and the interior is too wide.

The connector lock is named the connector lock because of the connector - which you have not got. Because, unlike a real M-14, the connector is not present, there is a void between the stock and the connector lock so the connector lock is free to walk out laterally. And, as you have learned, when that happens the recoil spring guide is released into the magazine and locking the magazine in the magazine well. (Not good.) One simple remedy would be to put a dab of threadlocker on the connector lock. A better remedy is to modify the interior of the stock to better support the receiver and the end of the connector lock, thus denying the connector lock any opportunity to wander laterally. (A side benefit - if done correctly - might be increased accuracy.) The quickest and easiest fix is the "popsicle stick modification". A piece of a popsicle stick is glued or epoxied to the interior of the stock to narrow the void and support the connector lock.

Search M-14 popsicle stick modification.

ha ha ha Yup, you are right about the popsicle stick mod:

No sweat. It's all good. Have a gander at my picture! Easy fix with the popsicle stick. If you don't source an aerospace grade, titanium infused, ultra-light popsicle stick, yer #### will fall off! :D

Sorry, I could not resist, you all predicted it!! yuk yuk yuk

thanks

I was looking at the situation and I was wondering that exact thing, as i have put the rifle in a GI fiberglass stock, thanks for confirming, I'm not as dumb as I thought.
