I'm looking to put a prefit IBI onto my Remington 700. My only question at this point is weight.

Assuming same length (26") what would be the weight difference between a medium profile barrel, or a fluted heavy profile?

Edit: For anyone else looking in the future, A fluted heavy profile weighs the same as the plain medium profile. Exactly what I was hoping for.

You will have to look at barrel provider. Their weights per contour will vary. If you go CF you can drop well over a pound.

The formula for the weight (in pounds) of steel is length x width x height x0.28

So really its area in cubic inches x 0.28.

So you can subtract out the diameter differences between the two

yes, that was my understanding. Which is why I am considering between the smaller profile solid, and the larger profile fluted. I figured if the weights were similar enough or even a bit lighter i'd go for the fluted heavy profile to get presumably similar or slightly better rigidity.

Well anyway i've fired off an email to IBI directly. I guess i'll just wait and see now.

Ibi makes great barrels. I’ve had two and both shot very well

Well, IBI got back to me. Incase anyone else is wondering in the future, either options weigh pretty much exactly the same at about 2 kg

Just for reference, This is an CF IBI barrel we installed at Tacord for a build. Remage nut install, pre chambered in 6.5PRC finished at 22", Tikka LA magnum used as a donor, with MDT LSS-XL chassis. This was built as a hunting rig.

I'm assuming you are going to be using a barrel nut for your "pre-fit"?

I like shooting in ways that require me to walk or run some times, and my firing point sometimes requires a bit of a hike.
