Hey folks,
I've started looking long and hard at Smith and Wessons M&P. I've read a couple of threads on the pistol already but I figured I would just start a new one with my questions.

Those who have them already what do you think? How many rounds do you have through them? Range reports? Praise? Problems? Anything you are willing to share.

My mind is pretty much made up but I would like to hear first hand opinions and reports from those that have shot them already.

Thanks in advance.

It's alright for a plastic gun

I've only had my M&P9 for a couple of months and shot nothing but relaods (350 rounds) but haven't had a single jam.

I LOVE the Novak sights, and the trigger is pretty good as well. The gun comes with 3 backstraps so the ergos are great.

IMO M&P is the best deal going right now.

I bought an M&P40 full size....2 weeks ago.....I've put 400 rounds through it so far with 0 problems......At first I found myself shooting 2-3 inches low but have noticed significant improvement since my first time shooting it....I only had the gun for 2 days and entered a competitive shoot with it and placed 3rd in the modern pistol class....I highly recommend it....check out this website....tons of info on the M&P.....mp-pistol.com later...Wes

I have noticed that of the 2 M&P's I have shot, the triggers are rough out of the box, but after a short bit smooth out nicely, next pistol on my list!

Ok here goes nothing.

MP40 bought last year in May.
Broken in with factory ammo. 500-1000 rnds.
Have probably 7000+ now with reloads. Lost count probably more.
I use it to compete with.

Never had any problems with factory. But have had some issues with some reloads which I tend to resolve when it happens. And they have been light primer strikes and FTE's.

Overall I love this gun and recommend it to any one who will listen. Check out the mp forum if you want to read more.

Buy the gun.

I picked up a M&P40 a little while ago. Iv'e got 300 rounds or so through mine.

I can't think of anything I could complain about with mine. It's a joy to shoot, easy to clean, and accurate. Im thinking of picking another up in .45acp pretty soon too.

Great pistol. Feels like it was built for my hand. 500 rounds no problems. The only issue was the the slide stop. I use this to advance the slide. It took about 200 rounds to work its way in. Releases fine now. I have heard on other posts, maybe here, the slide sometimes will not stay back after the last round has been shot. I got mine from Gobles in London for $619 + GST. Best price I could find. No regrets

Has anybody bought and shot a M&P45 yet?

Not yet, but it's on my list! I have found them at a few dealers, but I'm waiting for TSE to get them in. I'm dying to get one. If it shoots half as well as my other M&Ps, it will be well worth it's price and then some!

I've shot the M&P 40SW.
It was allright but I wasn't that impressed. It felt like another Glock like gun.

Personally for me:
1) Sig Sauer. More expensive but a very nice gun
2) Browning Highpower MKIII
3) CZ 75B, or 85 combat

The CZ was the surprise handgun. I've never been a big fan of CZ and then I shot a CZ85 combat. Wow, very nice trigger, smooth. The gun shot very well. I was extremely surprised. In terms of price it's not too bad.

My number one pick would be the P226 Sig Sauer. The price creeps up fast.
Stainless model.

Frankly except for the long trigger pull I preferred my S&W 5946 over the M&P.

It's a decent gun, but in my mind it didn't stand out.

UPDATE: Wanted to add that with a little more trigger time this baby is super sweet. It is so light compared to the SP01..it seems to disappear in competitions. Shoots to POA, transitions are quick, recoil subdued, and follow up shots easy. IMHO I can highly recommend it.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I'm just coming to grips with my M&P40. My CZ SP01 still feels better to me..and I shoot it better, but I think it is just a matter of practice with the new gun.

My M&P has been flawless through a few hundred rounds, and I do like it a lot. Should know better how it works for me in a couple of weeks, but I can recommend it.

The trigger does smooth out with very little use.

I noticed in the last Access to Arms he's raised his price to $649... still a good price.
Other sponsoring stores also advertise this price. (Not a dig on Gobles, I have bought from him as well).
