Convert a Snider Mk III to .50-70???

So maybe I have too much time on my hands (don't tell my wife or she will start talking about paint, etc) but I have been wondering about the possibility of converting a bubba'ed Snider to .50-70. Seems that rim diameter could be made to work with a little modification to the Snider extractor and a new .510 barrel from Ron Smith would shoot cast bullets nice. Anyone ever try such a thing?

Fit a decent set of sights that actually hit to point of aim, readily available brass, bullets and loads would make for a handy little thumper for casual shooting and woods walking for deer. It would be very Canadian at that!

Might be easier to sleeve the original barrel. .45-70 might also be an option.
A Snider isn't the strongest action, this would limit loads.

buddy of mine had one sleeved in 45-70 works great.

I would go with the .50-70, the shorter case would work better in the Snider. You could line the original barrel, just like the 2nd Model Allin conversion of the US Springfield.

Common .45-70 liners are .625" diameter. .57 chamber is larger at base, so chamber would need an additional sleeve. .50 liners are larger.
I have a Snider remnant with a NRA horrible bore. Have had a smoothbore shotgun conversion in the back of my mind. Maybe a sleeve project would have promise.
