Convert Marlin1894 to pistol grip

Could the straight grip butt stock and lever on a Marlin 1894 be changed to the pistol grip and curved lever of other Marlins simply by swapping with off-the-shelf Marlin parts?

I can't find the page on the Marlin site, but a few years ago they made a "special edition" 1894 that actually had a pistol grip stock and lever to match. They didn't make many, and they stopped in order to make more other stuff...

You have identified the biggest issue for me for the 1894 - I don't like that straight stock.

I wonder if the 336 lever fits the 1894? The stock doesn't. But at least that would be a source for the lever...

No, the 336 lever will not fit the 94 Marlin. Short versus long lever throw.

Oh. I'll be interested in .44Magnum rifle at some point, not necessarily a lever action. I've fired a friend's 336 and liked the curved grip and lever. I'd like the 1894 better if I could get it like that. I did notice someone offered a Marlin with curved grip and lever in .44 in the EE recently (an old model 336 if I recall correctly,) perhaps another will show up before I settle for a straight grip or a single shot.

Tooner, it is not that easy either as the tangs both top and bottom are different from the straight grip to the pistol grip.

I was kinda thinking the same thing Mr. Douglas.
Going to need the bottom receiver insert for sure.
Not certain as to whether the top tang is the same or not.
Need to rustle up some photos of each or do a side by side
3D comparison.

Dang it, you got me werk'in........found a couple photos.
The straight tang is a Marlin 39A and it uses the same stock as the big boys.
The other is an old 336 RC in 30-30.
You decide?

Yea I forgot all about the lower tang.I bet the upper tangs are the same because they are integral with the action.Not so,the lower tang on Marlins or Winchesters' so that they only had to make one action for straight and curved with the appropriate insert bottom tang.
I wondered this before about Winchesters and 99 Savages,but on the Savage it must be easy because there is no bottom tang,just the shape of the wood.

on a 336 you need the lower tang a new lever and of course the stock. donno much about the 1894 but check out marlinowners.com the 1894 section will have the answer for you.
