Converting 1911 to 45 ACP from either 40 or 9mm, possible in Canada?

What about double stack frames like NP28, NP30, NP44, etc.? Can you convert say, a Np28 9mm to .40sw by swapping on an aftermarket .40 slide assembly? (Assuming you can bubba the magazine to work)

Guns and Ammo magazine did an article on building a switch caliber 1911 some years bback might want to see if you can find a copy. It is doable, as none of the parts required are registered or controlled beyond commercial laws. - dan

Well that is the debate, on your registration it states that any cartridge change has to be called in, so trying to work out if anyone has done this and if the gun then gets changed to be "multi cartridge". I noticed on the registration the only thing that is listed is barrel length, so keeping a 5in barrel would not change any part of the physical registration but based on the wording you have 30 days to notify the CFO if you changed the cartridge it is chambered in.

Yup. So call them. Every 30 days. Or sooner if your heart desires. There is nothing illegal about doing this, and if you change it back after two weeks instead of 30 days, no harm, no foul. It's not as if they have a detailed knowledge of the cartridge a lot of 1911's are in anyway, though they might think they do. I just passed one on to a young friend, and when I called it in they told me it was a 9mm, which it most certainly was not. It was a bare frame when I bought it, and a 45 when I was done with it. - dan

Fusion firearms sells complete and fitted 1911 top ends (slide, barrel, barrel link, busshing). Wanstalls is a Fusion licensed distributor. They sell anything you need for 1911. They used to sell direct but not sure that’s the case anymore. Contact them about fitment, I found their customer service to be very helpful in the past. Also Contact Wanstalls to see if they can/will order it. If you are going to contact the rcmp ask for a technician, they will know better than the cfo.

Stop and think about this for a moment.
You have a 1911 pattern frame assembly.
You have a .22 conversion kit.
You also have upper assemblies for 9mm, .38Super, .40S&W, and .45ACP.
On any given trip to the range, you shoot various configurations.
Are you going to call every time you swap out a conversion set? Several times in one Saturday afternoon? Heck, you can't count on getting through these days to get a transfer number.

It may be that issue of a new registration certificate is no longer possible. The handgun freeze on transfers is accomplished by non-issue of registration certificates.

I thought it was the refusal of a transfer authorization, registration comes afterwards. I looked at the announcement on publicsafety's website, and no mention of registration certificates.
