As the title says does anyone have any experience with converting 9mm to 30 Luger?

Asking for a friend that has a commercial P08. I've converted 223 to 300 AAC and enjoyed the process. Would this be just as simple?

If he could get a set of Lee dies for a good price and load Tokarev projectiles then it would be worth it after a couple hundred rounds.

Cheers

I don't think you an make 30 Luger from 9mm brass.

You can make it with 223 brass, but it is a lot of work.

Easier to locate and buy a bag or 2 of Starline bras.

Hmm I thought one was the parent case of the other?

I have a ton of 223 so that's not an issue. A pipe cutter and a cordless drill would make quick work of it.

But you are right, starline is a good option. I'm a tinkerer so I thought making brass might be a fun project.

There will be more to it than just trimming. The wall thickness and probably the web will have to be thinned as well so you are looking at using reamers or a lathe.

Never done it and would definitely just source brass.

Yeah, .30 Luger is the parent case of 9x19 Parabellum. The .30 Luger case is 21mm long, which is 2mm longer than 9x19.

30 Luger case can be made from 223 brass, providing you find thinnest wall possible 223 cases. This would be cheapest conversion as 223 brass is plentifull. Get different cases of 223 and cut them in half to see the thickness, then select the thinnest brand you have. After that is just trimming, sizing and reloading. I found the Winchester cases that fired few times had thinner walls than most of the cases I measured and I been able to convert about hundred of them.
Other conversions can be made from 7.62 tok or 38 super., but unless you have lots of time on your hands 7.62 is pain to do. 38 super is just size and trim.
Starline 30 luger brass is crap, 1-2 firings and its done. split necks and enlarged primer pockets evident right away. 223 conversion is better holds up to luger action.
Fun doing these conversions.
