Cleaning out the closet i came across two safeway bags of 7.62x51 berdan brass.

I was curious if anyone has tried to convert berdan primed brass to boxer?

Perhaps some sort of jig in the drill press would allow one to drill through the primer and pin to create a flash hole for boxer primers.

it just seems like such a waste to throw out 1000's of berdan primed brass cases!

Hello

This the best article I've seen so far on the subject of conversion.

I personaly have just decapped over 70 berdan primed Swiss 7.5X55 cases and have 500 5.5mm berdan primers on order. Should be interesting:D

Berdan primers are not the same diameter as boxer. Trying to convert 'em doesn't work well either. The flash hole ends up too big.
Keep enough to make drawer pulls and sell the rest to a scrap dealer. Mind you, you won't get much for 1,000.

Berdan

Yeah I once wasted a lot of time trying this with Kynoch .280 Ross brass. Std large boxer-primers are a hair to small. In the end, I found .300H+H brass sized in my RCBS .280 Ross dies, trimmed to length, worked fine, belt and all.

I have loaded Berdan when I have to for an odd-ball caliber. For 7.62x51 it should go to scrap dealer. I toss it in a garbage can and when it is full, it gets sold. Price has just fallen by half or more.
