Converting Mossy 590A1 to a hunting rig

Hello,
I was thinking of converting my Mossberg 590A1 with 8 shell mag and 20" barrel to a hunting rig that I could change the barrels depending on need.
I know I can remove the 590A1 mag tube and install a 500 model mag tube making it compatible with 500 barrels. Question is, where in Canada can I buy Mossberg 500 model mag tube and barrels?

Where you are matters.
"...change the barrels..." Plan 'B' would be changeable chokes on your 20" barrel. Bit short for ducks, but dandy for upland birds. Doubt you'll find just a mag tube. Like Can-Down says, it'd be far easier to buy a whole shotgun.
 
....but I like the mil-spec all-steel action and parts, dual extractors, sort of ensures durability in a long run. I don't know the model 500 specs. Might buy some really used up 500 for the mag tube and the barrels can be had somewhere. It is the mag tube that is probably the hardest to get.

The 20" barrel on 590A1 has no threads to accept chokes, I am sure it can be threaded but not sure if this is worth the $$$ to have done when multiple barrel set up would be ideal and probably only a little more expensive than getting the current barrel threaded.
 
My advice would be to just buy another shotgun that you intend to use solely for hunting.

BTW, the receiver of the 590A1 is aluminum, not steel.

If you want a steel receiver on your shotgun, get a Browning BPS or Rem 870.
 
Buy a 500. I doubt you will notice much difference beyond weight, and I guarantee whatever you shoot at won't know the difference at all.
 
sounds like just getting a 500 triple barrel combo might be the best option. I might put the 590A1 Blackwater back on EE. I don't really have a need for tactical shotty other than it is an "evil" shotty that lefties love to hate and I love it for that alone.

If you have the bead sight style barrel, threading the muzzle for choke tubes would provide you with the versatility you're looking for. If you have the rifle sight barrel, you can purchase a second 590 barrel with the bead if you don't want to use the big post front sight. The 590 style magazine, which I prefer to the 500's, can be easily plugged for 2 shells. You might also discover that the compound used to hold the 590 magazine is not readily removable. But those who suggest simply purchasing the 500 you want might be a cheaper, faster solution.
 
I have explored this idea to and decided to get another shotgun, mossberg 535. Same control and all, 3.5 chamber which you will never get on a 590 and by the time you get all the parts you will be close to the price another shotgun. More guns is always better anyway lol.
 
Way to go man. Also, one more thing that stopped me is the sourcing of the parts. What you need to mod a 590 like that don't show up on the EE very often.
