I am interested in knowing if the NP 29 could "easily" be converted to a .40?
Would it be as simple as swapping out some parts or would any gunsmithing be required?

Thanks for any input

NAA,

Thanks, I've heard Gunnar's the man...
What I am looking for more specifically, is besides swapping out the appropriate parts, is any machining, or professional gunsmithing required?

You will either need a .40cal slide or have the original one opened up to accept the .40cal case head. Of course a barrel is needed as well.
If you want more pop, conversion to .38 super is just a barrel and bushing away......:)

Hitzy,

That's more what I was looking for. A whole new slide or some serious machining... Sounds like the .38 Super conversion is a little easier and more cost effective, thanks

Gunnar can't open up the breech face to 40 on a Norinco 1911. I talked to him about the same thing a couple weeks ago. The steel is just too tuff.

np29

the bolt face on my np29 would accept a 40s&w case. just add a barrel and a mag and you are good to go. search for gunnars posts on multi-caliber 1911's
