converting ps90 to non-restricted

i took a look through the forum, and couldn't find anything about changing a gun from restricted to non restricted, though i did find some info on prohib to restricted...

anyways, i've been in love with the p90 since goldeneye... when i found out it was a real gun, i just about dropped a load in my pants! then, of course i found out that full autos are prohibs, and being that i am one of the many unfortunate souls that will never own a prohib (legally) i was sad, but then, i heard about the ps90, and how it's restricted and/or non restricted in canada!

so i'm looking into buying one eventually, not anything super soon, but it is on my list of things i must own! first, the standard ps90 is a restricted firearm, i know that, i was talking to a friend at a local range, and he was telling me it was going to be about $2000 for a restricted ps90, or $3000 for a non restricted... the extra 1000$ seems a little steep for a different barrel (albeit a better barrel)

so here's my questions, first, if i buy a $2000 ps90, and buy a longer barrel, change it myself, can i have it changed from a restricted to non restricted firearm?

second, if i were to have an armorer, or smith change the barrel, how much am i looking at for that?

are there any better ways for me to get a ps90 non restricted? short of coming across a used one that's a good deal, that happens to be for sale when i have the several thousand to drop on it...

why non restricted you might ask? first, i oppose the gun registry fully, both for restricted and long guns, not that i have anything to hide, but i would prefer to not have my guns registered... second, if i go out camping, i would love to be able to take it out with me and shoot some cans or targets out in the bush, or hell, even go hunting small game! and not have to have it in 1 of two places, my house, or the range...

any thoughts?

I think its only $800 more for the Non-Restricted Model through Questar and that's the way I would go. To get a barrel, have it fitted and get it re-classed as non Restricted on this I doubt anyone would tackle the job from scratch for less than $800.

Yes, you can get it reclassified to non restricted once you get the longer barrel installed. If you are at all mechanically inclined and you have access to some basic tools you can change it out yourself, it is not rocket science. Here are a few shots of mine, I changed the barrel on it myself. Very happy with it but the gophers HATE me! :D

Can't blame you for liking the PS90... One of my favorite carbines. Here's my build... Custom barrel made to fit inside the factory shroud. I eliminated the muzzle brake to get a non-restricted barrel to fit into the factory shroud... Which meant the gun didn't grow...put on a factory sight and vented sleeve and it was all set perfect...

nice! yeah, i'm more than willing to tackle the barrel change... it can't be rocket science... i've rebuilt engines, i can't see changing a barrel being that much different...

if you don't mind my asking, how much did the barrels run you?

i want the shortest possible barrel (so no break whatsoever) to give it the closest to the true p90 look, while not having to deal with the bs around the canadian laws

as for having it converted, how does one go about that, does it cost money, is it a PITA?

is this something that i might be able to do at the store when i pick it up, so i buy a restricted gun, but have it non restricted before i leave the store, so i don't have to register it?

i should add that i currently don't own any guns, and i have fired exactly 2 guns in my life so far... lol a .22LR that i didn't even realize at the time was a real gun (i thought it was an air gun like the rest we were playing with) and a revolver... put around 1000 rounds through it though
