Converting Rem 700 in 223 to 300 Blackout

Just need a blank and a smith to install. Lots of site sponsors can hook you up with a blank of your choice. Jerry @ Mystic Precision, Bighorn Sales, ATRS etc

Not sure how well it works on the remmy, but when you do it on a savage, there are issues. The biggest one for me was the ejector spring, way too strong and would throw the case into the side of the action before it got to the cut out. So most of the time I'd have to dig the cases out with my fingers, if I was quick on the rearward action of the bolt throw then it might sit at the back of the action but never ejected out. I wanted to have a setup I could switch between cals, so modding the ejector seemed like it would create problems when the 223 barrel was on. I finally parted out the savage and bought a 700 in 300blk from one of the site sponsors, way less hassle.

Suputin is the master at doing this. I think you're better off starting with a 17 fireball or similar.
I was going to do the same and he told me to buy a fireball but when I got it I decided to shoot it and it shot so well I decided to keep it so I also bought a 16" Rem 700 AAC-SD in 300BLK and I'm very happy with it, sub moa with my 155gr A-max loads over A1680 or LiL'Gun.

A 17 Fireball or maybe 221 Fireball based action is a better way to go. The ejection setup is designed for the shorter case. That's not to say a 223 based rifle won't work but the Fireball actions are more likely to work first time.

The other things to consider are bbl length and profile as well as twist rate. I only shoot sub sonics through mine and I use a shorter bbl length so I could get away with a heavier profile and not end up with an overly heavy rifle.

Hmm, well that's good info. I didn't think of that ejection issue. I was thinking of a 16 inch heavy barrel like the factory one is.
