I have a Rem 700 in 6mm with a floor plate stock. Can I buy a Rem factory DM stock and drop in the barreled action to convert it to a DM rifle, or is there more to it than that?

I did a 700 270 it was easy. I bought a floor plate and magazine at a local gun show brought it home put in the floor plate and used a die grinder to remove a little wood where the mag release is on the mag. It took about 20 or 30 minutes.

The factory DM 700s have no feed rails, but the rifles will feed well without removing the feed rails if properly fitted. You can simply buy a factory DM stock, magazine and bottom metal,or you can grind away on the bdl stock and make it fit.

I just bought a floor plate stock to put on my DM from another member. Is it just the notches that need to be put in or does the hole need to be made bigger?

Come on, someone has taken a wood floor plate stock and converted it to a DM.

Help me out I have a tupper ware stock on now and have bought a real one and need to know what has to be done to make this work.

I like wood stocks they make me very happy.

thanks

If you are converting a wood stock, hinged floor plate to a detachable mag you will need to get new trigger guard/bottom metal assembly and a clip. You will have to inlet the stock for the clip release buttons. You may also have to widen out the magazine well in the stock if the clip fits too tightly.

other option is the Kwik Klip if this was a long action rifle. Take your time, mark the cuts carefully, use a small router and hand file to clean up. Don't take out too much wood or your job will not look so nice. You may want to angle or profile the relief cuts so that it looks nicer.

Actually I have a factory detachable mag receiver with a synthetic staock and have bought a wood hinge plate and want to convert it.

I need to know if I have to sand out the opening or just for the mag release.

Probably didn't ask that properly.

thanks

I thought a factory detachable reciever wouldn't work with a regular mag box and follower...something about the feed rails in the reciever being MIA in the detachable mag reciever....check that out before you go any further..

I sorry but I'm not sure I follow you? I have a 700 that came from the factory with a detachable mag. I am not making any changes to the reciever or magazine. Just changing the stock.

Just as Gunpro stated. It's not hard but the Remington DM triggerguard and mag arent cheap. I did this several years ago to a .338 "Classic". Guard alone was nearly $100US, mag another $55. Gun's long gone now.
Personally I prefer good old hinged floor-plate.
