Anybody done this? Does it make sense? I have a nice VZ 58 with the 11.8 inch barrel, 10 rd conversion and other goodies and I would keep it but don't like the fact that it is restricted. Who could do the barrel conversion and reclassification, cost etc.?

they will come in here telling u that it isnt worth it thats about as much you will get out of this forum

If you can find the right gunsmith in ur vacinity its plausible and cheap as long as you provide the barrel and etc. if not a gun smith will charge you usually for a barrel and more then for retail as well as the expected labour.

If you can access a press you could do it yourself

The barrel is pressed in I believe. Quite the job to switch it. If it was me, I'd just sell it and buy a NR instead. Lot less hassle IMO.

Dlask is going to offer this service soon. Check their dealer forum.
They will mill out the old barrel, thread the receiver and will install a threaded barrel.

Maybe no takers due to past issues and less than stellar reliability.

Maybe not on yours but the 556 version has had it's share of problems.

I've had my .223 7.5" VZ at bit of pieces since February getting it re barreled as a non restricted. I wasn't shooting it enough and wanted to see what it looked like with a fake suppressor anyway. That's not a typo either it is a 7.5 inch getting re barreled an 18.5 inch. In doing this it also fixes the possible broken bolt issue.
