Has anyone converted a savage 11 bottom bolt release to a top bolt release? i am thinking of getting a aftermarket stock for a savage 11 FCNS and it has the bottom bolt release.

I have seen discussion of it online; it requires milling a flat off the side of the receiver and getting a part (the sear I think) from Savage.

I've just finished installing a CDI bottom metal in my Savage, and it came with a little L-shaped piece of metal that you epoxy to the end of the bolt release arm on the trigger group. That lets you work the bolt release from just inside the trigger guard.

I've been trying to do this for the last 2 months and im my expirence it isn't going to happen up here. The sear part you need is restricted to only gunsmiths by savage, and everyone that you can buy it from in the states doesn't ship up here. I'm going to make my own diy release so it works im my new chassis.

At the time i did my conversion with a top release sear from numrich
With a torch , i bent the sear top tab so it doesnt rub on round receiver.
Then had to file my plastic accustock so sear fits

Not worth the trouble, bottom bolt release is fine, for me anyways

I hate to hijack this thread but where did you get the CDI bottom metal agent_mango? Do they ship to Canada?

I ordered it from Jerry at Mystic Precision.

If you can, try to buy a combo of bottom metal + a stock that's already been inlet for the bottom metal. I don't know where you can buy this in Canada.

I did things ass backwards, I had the stock for a while, bedded it, liked the stock but hated the mag. So I bought the bottom metal, inlet the stock on a mill (doing my usual passable but not particularly great job!), and now I have it done. I frikkin love the CDI single shot adapter.

I think ill just get a MDT chassis at some point and end up modifying the bolt release or epoxying something to it so its more easily accessible.

Only sear was needed for me.
They we're 10$US at the time (Numrich parts store), order 2 in case you break one heating it up (unless you plan on milling receiver side)

Will swapping out the sear allow the use of aftermarket triggers that don't normally work with the bottom bolt release? e.g. SAV-2 or others?

Thanks,
Cal.

I couldn't tell
What i can tell, top release sear has exactly same contact on trigger parts than bottom release sears
Only difference is placement of bolt release arm.
