Cooey “sureshot” .22 rifle

Cooey “sureshot” .22 rifle

I recently acquired a cooey sureshot .22 rifle, it is not marked cooey anywhere on the barrel or receiver, it just says “sureshot .22s .22l .22lr” its a tube fed style rifle. Are there any cooey experts out there that could give me an accurate date on the old girl?

Depends if it's stamped on the barrel or receiver. Reciever stamped models are from the 40s and the barrel stamped models are later, 50s. It's a store branded model 60 likely.
 
I have a "Sureshot" .22 single shot. From the research I did it appears "Sureshot" Cooeys were a store branded Cooey sold by Simpson's (not Simpson Sears or Sears). In my case the rifle is a Cooey 75 with the 27" barrel. I have seen copies of Simpson's catalogs from 1945 and 1965 both showing this rifle but with the deeper heavier stock, and a repeater like yours. Mine has the straight fore end on the stock, without this deeper heavier area, and is similar to the very early 75s. However, my stock is different from the Ranger my dad bought, and still has, from Eaton's in the 1930s which was also a Cooey 75. I think the old Cooey single shots were fantastic rifles and have in the past probably been about the most under rated .22 out there. My Father has one. I can't say how old it is, but it was an old gun the first time I saw it and I learned to shoot on it over 50 years ago.
