I inherited a Cooey 22LR auto but there's a damaged spring I removed, which was affixed using a whole in the side of the barrel. I am guessing it was used to lock the magazine in place. Does anyone know whether this spring is available at a Canadian retailer?

This is probably the ejector spring you are talking about. It's very easy to damage or lose. Probably the best chance of finding one is the parts table at the local gun show.

I’ve used Western Gun Parts several times to order parts for my Winchester 499 .22 auto, I have the owners manual with the parts numbers, that was very helpful , be sure you know the model number of your Cooey when ordering parts

If I understand the OP's description correctly, the only spring that is mounted to a hole in the side of a Cooey barrel is the ejector. This system is long gone, replaced by a flat piece set into a slot in the side of the barrel breech.
Obsolete parts are in the catch as catch can category.
I suppose someone with patience could make a replacement from music wire with a pair of pliers - if they had one to copy.
