Cooey 600 - several problems

I'm having some problems with my Cooey 600 which I was given recently. First, ammunition does not feed properly. I load several rounds into the tube magazine, insert the push rod/follower, and when I open the bolt to try and chamber a round, the cartridge sometimes does not want to get pushed into the bolt. Many times the rim of the cartridge is pushed part way into the bolt, but for some reason it becomes very stiff at that point. I can only pull the bolt back about 3/4 of the way, and then it becomes very stiff. Also, rounds do not always eject very well. I get a round chambered, fire, and when I open the bolt, a new round is engaged in the bolt, but the fired round does not get ejected enough to send it flying to the ground. It often ends up resting atop the new round.

I think part/all of the problem is that the action seems fairly gummy. However, I do not know how to take things apart to clean it up. Is it difficult to disassemble the bolt so I can clean the firing pin, as this is another problem? I always have numerous rounds that do not have the rim crushed enough to set off the primer and fire the round. Would spraying some penetrating solvent help clean up some of the gunky grease?

Don't even think about taking the bolt apart, unless you are very mechanically inclined and can make some special tools. That being said you can easily disassemble the the COOEY ,by UNDOING THE LARGE KNOB OR SCREW in front of the trigger guard. Then with everything exposed you can clean and lubricate, don't try to remove pins or parts, just clean and lube. . Try a spray cleaner to clean the bolt then lube lightly. Once lubed try firm deliberate action on the bolt, not rough or abusive but not slow soft movements.

Once you get the stock off then check that the mag lug that locks into the bolt slot is engaging properly. The adjustment for this will be the same stud that the 'take down' collar is on (that you turned to take the bolt off). there will be a nut on the lug that locks the depth of the stud..........which the mag tube rides on as it moves back and forth. Check that the mag runs back and forth freely but also that the lug on the mag engages properly into the bottom of the bolt.

****Removing bolt........see above........back off the stud until the mag lug drops out of the bolt........the bolt will now exit the receiver.

Light hits........... could be an accumulation of gunk in the receiver where the cocking piece slides. Ensure that this area is very clean. A little bit of lube helps in this area. You might also want to remove the bolt and check that the axial allignment of the two halves is correct. Sometimes the guide rod that connects the front half of the bolt to the rear gets a bit bent.........causing the cocking piece to 'drag' in the receiver........thus light primer strikes.

Cheers - Gus:D

First dissassemble the stock screw to remove the action from the stock and check if the bolt that is holding the magazine tube is not loose.

Nope, that bolt is not loose. I think tomorrow when I have more time I'll clean things up really well, then lube it up and see if that fixes things before I do anything else.
