Is there more than 1 style of cooey 600? I always thought there was only 1, and had a plastic trigger guard, tube mag, and a rabbit carved into the wood. In some posts people refer to other 600 models. Could these other ones have been modified. ie different stocks, etc ?

The barrels are marked as Cooey 600s. There were a variety of woods fitted as many different stores had rifles made to sell as their product, and wanted thier own visibility. For instance the cooey 64 series were made in Cooey, Lakefield, Sears and many many more .Different stains, carvings and styles of woods were created also. I have a 64 that has the rabbit stock, so the 600 is not the only issue with that particular stock.

The cooey-winchester model 600 when it first came out was very much like its older sister the model cooey 60. It had a wood stock versa the laminted presswood of later models, the metal trigger guard but it did have a shorter stock than the old model 60 and a shorter mag tube. As you said the later 600 has the plastic trigger guard. I also beleive at the end of production they also had a 3/8 dovetail milled on the top for easy scope mount. The 600s also had a little shorter bolt length than the model 60s.

Remember when you speak of the model 600 its not a Cooey but a winchester model made from a base 60 with changes. Same as the 64, 64A and 64B are not really Cooey made.-----Cowboy

Thanks for the info. I kind of figured it was something like that but wasn't sure. I'm going to buy the cooey book if i can find one.

Cooey 600

I have the model 600 winchester/cooey with the dovetail machined into the reciever. I have had this gun since new and it does not have a plastic trigger guard or rabbit into the stock wood. This rifle has been absolutely bullet proof and it has seen some hard use, however I always maintained my firearms.

I jusy picked up a Cooey 600 over the weekend. Very dirty and scratched but cleaned up very well. There seems to be a problem with the tube feed. The plunger gets caught in the receiver after the last round is ejected. Anyone else have this problem?

After the last round is ejected it is supposed to be in the receiver, thats what force the last case out. Close bolt, remove rod and refill. If you don't close the bolt the rod won't come out. Hope that helps.
