Hey all,

Got a Cooey 64 by Winchester Western, I beleive a model A (plastic magazine). It's very used lol and needs some cleanup work

Been using it at the range a bit to see where it's at, and it didn't even occur to me until someone let me fire their 22 that the sponginess of the trigger isn't super desireable.

Wondering if there's anyone with knowledge or knows of any guides that can walk me through everything it takes to modify a trigger like this. I'm aware it's a bit involved, and I admit I'm quite green to this, but i'd sure love to know if it's even possible without swapping out the whole trigger assembly for something else. If that is the case I don't mind leaving it the way it is. It's just something that stuck out to me is all

I've put way too much time into "port & polishing" Cooey triggers...to say no matter what...they're never get much better.
Will never become... say an "AccuTriggerTM".

HuskyDude, is the trigger return spring the same as the Sav-64? If so, the MCarbo Sav-64 Spring kit would help. I used the Sear Spring from that kit in my 64, and just about 1/3 of the spring of a clik-pen (stretched to fit) for the Return spring. It's sorta like a very light 1st stage. And 'sharpened' the Sear edge with 1000g to get a crisp release. Just lightly polished that edge and all 'friction points' inside. Fiddly stuff but it added up to a 2.5# crisp pull. YMMV

I don't know if the mcarbo spring kit will fit a 64 with the plastic magazine but it's worth taking a look at.

Mcarbo does say it will fit the following models:

Q: What other firearms will this trigger spring kit work in?

A: Cooey 64, Winchester-Cooey Model 64B, Savage 954 and the Lakefield 64B

Here's a good video of a complete breakdown and how to install the mcarbo trigger spring on a savage 64 i don't know how similar that will be to the plastic magazine version though
