Cooey 64 question?

If the barrel says 64B you can run the new production savage 64 mags without any issues. I think if it's a non b it requires plastic mags or an adapter kit to use the current production save mags.

I did a mag conversion many years ago while an old buddy was still walking this planet.
He had tons of categorized parts and we picked thru his pile until I had 'nuff parts to
complete the kit.
Forget the list but some items are the floor plate, mag housing guide, mag retainer spring, etc.
There is a kit offered out there and I do expect once you buy this kit and find a stock, well you
could in over your head for value.
CGN member gunrunner100 may still have some kibbles'n bits?
Western Gun Parts may likely be a source for the parts needed.
I've included a link to Numrich's site but I haven't seen a kit offered there.
P.M. me for a couple outfits that may be helpful to you that aren't site sponsors.

Try google JRs Cooey Parts. They don't have a website but you can reach them on Facebook messenger. I just ordered a spring for the mag tube on my Model 60. JR seems very quick to respond.

Ive done a couple dozen conversions. No new parts are made but older parts can be sourced. Its a simple swapping of parts.
Good luck trying to find a functional plastic 64 mag

They did release a pot metal mag to replace the plastic mag but it was just as bad and just as rare.

No interest at all in plastic. I can't believe they even used them back then. Anyway, I found the conversion parts for the metal mags.

The "metal " mags may be better than the older plastic which I have no experience with . All 3 of the newer ones I had wore out at a phenomenal rate, less than a brick each and the feed lips were so worn out the rounds would not stay in . you can squeeze the feed lips back together with pliers but that is only a temporary solution.

Back in the day the mag kits were pushing $50
Up to you if you wish to add the price to the gun value.
If you like the pew pew, remember, it's only muneezs.

I converted one a year or two ago. Seemed worth the money to convert for the simple fact I had access to more mags than with the previous plastic mags. I also ended up selling my plastic mag and associated parts.

The magwell adapter was a bit finicky. There are 2 screws that hold it to the bottom of the receiver, I had to shim one between the magwell and the receiver to get a good angle for feeding. So just keep in mind it might not be a direct drop in unit, and may need some adjusting.

The gun works flawlessly now. Was blasting gophers this spring and it never skipped a beat, and isn't too picky on ammo.

I think I paid $60-65 for the adapter kit including 1 mag. New mags are around $20 if I recall correctly.

I received the stock today. I believe it must be a savage 64 stock because it is inletted for the safety. It appears to need minor inletting at the front of the receiver/rear barrel area to seat properly. One thing is that the mag well is slightly back from the original. I don't know if this will be an issue. Anyone put a savage 64 stock on a Cooey 64 "A" before? Even if it works , I believe I need the bottom metal from the savage around the mag well as the fastener spacing is different than my original.
