Are there any options for a taller front sight for this? The original is bent and a bit loose. I also can't use the elevator for the rear sight at 50 yards. Would be nice to not have to take it right out at that range...

If there's an option to replace front and rear that'd be fine too, but something closer to original would be nice. Was my grandpa's old gun.

The bent front sight will cause the problem if it was straight it would give you the change required, and your rear sight would then have the range of movement work.
Those old shooters were a ok when they were built.Someone on the forum will point you in the correct direction to get a front sight.I would attempt to straighten the sight.

Some people told me a dab of JB weld on top. Because I got a mauser that shoots too high. But every cooey I had the sights were bang on at 50, shot high 50 and below. Even my 78 with peep sights.

That's what I remember about the cooey my other grandpa had, was a tack driver. I'll start with straightening this one out and try to get it snug in the dove tail. Like you say, getting it straight might be enough height.

The rear sight could also be bent back a bit. But from all I had they all shot the same. Required bending back the rear sight or making the front sight taller.

But if I bend the rear sight up (same as using the elevator) it'll make it shoot even higher.

No one said to bend the rear up.
It would require bending the sight tab rearward resulting in lowering the poi, and that is what you need.Start with straightening front shoot it and put rear elevation all the way down and shoot it if it is high just bend tab back. It won't require much I don't have the sight radius handy but using 20" it would only need .011" change to get 1" of change @ 50 yards or .022" @ 25 yds is the same for 1" change. It really isn't that much of a elevation change at all.I hope this helps.

Oh OK, that makes sense. Thanks all for the help.

On the not so of chance I bugger up the front sight trying to straighten it, are there any sources for front sights for this gun? I've looked around online with no luck. Found rear sights on the EE here but that's it...

You can tighten up the sight some by after removing the front sight from the barrel, and being very careful, tap down the dovetail ears on the barrel just slightly. It will tighten it up. Or conversely you can use a center punch and setting the sight upside down in a vice with the jaws padded, puch a couple divits on the flat bottom. It will take up the free space and tighten up the sight. If you end up messing the front sight up straightening it out just PM me.

The front sight dovetail width is 3/8" that is the most common width there are many American guns that take a sight that width. The height will be the determining factor.Someone here will have a sight in their stash .All you need to know is the original height.

Sounds good, that's along the lines of what I figured I'd do to tighten it up.

Western Gun Parts Edmonton has new Cooey sights but there are 2 styles of sights for the 75 . They may have used also
