Does anyone here know if the old Cooey 84 frames are scaled to the gauge size? Ie 12ga frame bigger than 16ga frame? Or is the 16ga built on the same frame as the 12?

12ga to 410 ga all the same size they were a econo gun produced by the 1000's the barrell shank was made larger or smaller depending on the ga .

Are the barrels a slimmer profile depending on the gauge? Or is it the same one-size-fits-all type of deal like the frames?

Thanks for the info guys. You all saved me from having to buy multiple copies of the same gun to compare.

I caught the 16ga bug last year, and currently run around in the woods with an old belgian 16ga sxs hammergun. Said gun is built on a proper 16ga scaled frame, so it's a dream to lug around in the field. I've recently picked up a Cooey 16ga, and was curious if the Cooeys had scaled frames/barrels or not. I don't have any other Cooeys to compare against, so figured I would throw it up on the forum and see what the smart people here thought.

Curious...what is your purpose for all of this?

Nice! My first gun was Cooey Model 84 16ga. It was from my dad and is nicer than new. He re-finished and blued the barrel and refinished the stock. The receiver is a case-coloured finish. It is a beautiful gun; certainly not typical of the majority of the model 84 kicking around. Of course I still have it. 16ga puts you on the fringe, at least that is how I feel about it. Have fun!!

Fringe is right... Love going to the gun stores and seeing 1oz #6 12ga loads for $8.50/box. Then check out the 16ga loads: $30/box for the same 1oz #6 loads... Or seeing the multitudes of non-toxic options for 12ga, aaaaaand finding zero 16ga options.

Sometimes I don't know why we 16ga people do it. But they sure are fun to shoot.

If you like both 16 ga and hammer guns, may I suggest you keep your eyes peeled for a Husqvarna. In addition to being light and well balanced, they're a comfortable round action carry that's great in the uplands. Tradex had several for modest prices at the time.

Federal 2 1/2 dram Game loads in 16 gauge come on sale for about $12 a box from time to time. Cheap Remington Dove loads show up now and again. Just stock up when they are on sale.

Pretty soon the 16 gauge enthusiast starts looking at reloading. Components for 16 gauge are scarce in Canada too.
