I know this question has been asked a bunch of times, but I know very little about shotguns, especially old ones. I have an old 84, 2-3/4 only, and it's got a full choke on it. I also have a bunch of 1oz slugs I got at a steal of a price. Will I hurt the gun and therefore myself if I plug some slugs through it?

Thanks amigos, I'd rather ask a dumb question that lose my face or bust my barrel.

Take it to a qualified gunsmith and ask him. In general though, as long as it's a 2 3/4 inch rifled slug, (not a sabot) through a fixed full choke, (not screw-in) you should be fine.

If the gun is in otherwise good shape. I wouldn't be afraid to do it. I've fired dozens of slugs out of a .410 Cooey, and a 20 Win/Cooey.

The only way to tell if your firing pin is too short is to shoot it.
Other than that, all Foster style slugs are designed to swage thru any choke. Most think the "rifling" grooves are to impart spin, they may spin a little....But these rifling grooves so to speak are what allow the Foster slug to swage thru or conform to the choke.
I've hunted with my Win 37 16ga with full choke and Winchester and some older Imperial slugs with zero problem.

I have shot tons of the old imperial slugs out of many cooey over the years with zero issues other than I could not hit very well with them
Cheers

I know, MOA Barn door LOL

Best to buy several brands to see which works best. Remington Slugger's are pretty good too. This of course is if you intend to hunt with it.
I like to carry a few slugs in pocket when I got after ruffies in case by chance I come across a deer ;)

Okay first. To check your firing pin.drop a dime in the barrel.clise it up and tap the but stock in the floor to get sure the dime is sitting flat over the firing pin..thy pull the trigger .you should hear the dime dance .second lead slugs are softer then the steel barrel. So yes you can shoot all the lead slugs your shoulder can handle as ling as your gun us in reasonable condition. ...full choke is no problem for lead slugs
