Cooey 840 Hiawatha 12ga

I have a Hiawatha 12ga., 30" barrel. No marks on the barrel other than 12 ga. Full Choke. Will it take 3" as well as 2 3/4"? It is serial numbered 54###.

Edit: Found my answer. 840 are chambered for 3".

I still have a model Cooey 84 with a12 gauge 3 inch chamber. I remember as a kid shooting 1 7/8 oz Remington Nitro Mags out of it as a kid. Yes ouch was the word.

No Model 84 was made with a 3 inch chamber unless it was re chambered then marked.

Maybe......but I had it checked by a gunsmith years ago before he sold me those shells.

Saying that now, I am older and more fragile and so is the gun. I would no longer shoot those 3" shells out of it anymore. Yes.....you should always get your shotgun checked by a competent gunsmith before hand.

Kicks like a mule, I shot some 3” magnum CIL #6 through mine and it wasn’t pleasant lol.
