I was going thru my lockers the other nite and pulled out a soft case from waaaay in the back and I had no clue what was in it until I opened it up. I don't think it's been out of the case for two or three years. It's a Cooey 840 in 20 gauge with a 28" full choke barrel. I've owned it longer than any gun currently in my posession, bought it from Bob at Trail Firearms in Edmonton in about '88 or '89. This is the only Cooey 840 I've seen with walnut stocks. I'm sure a lot of guys own Cooey single shot scatterguns. How many are out there with walnut stocks?..just curious, is this some kind of a rarity or what?..not that I'd ever sell it.

Hey Rick the early Cooey 840's and the forerunner model 84's had real nice straight grained walnut furniture. It was the result of a time when cheap did not mean poor quality. I have owned several singles and I always look for the ones with walnut in the used section. They rarely cost more than the hard wood fitted ones. Is yours chambered in 3" mag? I had a 3" mag Cooey 840 in 12 bore needless to say it kicked when loaded with 1 7/8 oz lead loads. Enjoy that shotgun.

cheers Darryl

Darryl,

thanks for the reply....I too owned a Cooey 840 in 12 gauge but I can't say whether it was 2-3/4 or 3"..had it about the time I bought the 20G...as for the kick ,..well that's why I sold it...I didn't think I needed all that power and commotion for the odd grouse  ...the only other shotgun I own is also a 20G,..a 3" mag Win 1300XTR from the Pre USRAC changeover....brought this one back from Texas with me in '90.. :D..bought it from Fountain Firearms on HiWay 6 on the far west side of Houston.

Hey Rembo, my first gun was a Cooey 840 in 28 ga., got it as a birthday present in '83, 28" barrel, full choke. The original varnish has long since chipped off. I have refinished it by oiling the stock. Beautiful little bird gun. I was out last week with it, but too cold and wet, no partridge around.

I'm not sure what the stock is made from, maybe someone here could help me out.

mine could use refinishing.

I've had a 12, sold a couple of the 410's, own a 20, and just bought a 28g. Only one 410 had walnut.
BTW Rembo, the 28 will be up for trade/sale when I get the paperwork 8)

I've got an old Model 84 in 16 gauge with a couple of hunks of that straight grained walnut. Nice piece of Canadiana .... usually take it for
a little walk come October. ;)
