A little inspiration for all those out there with little kids to teach and a budget for gun stuff.

My little girl is eight now and has had her eye on the Cricket in pink for about a year. I can't afford a $300 gun for her to learn with so I've picked up a Cooey ACE single shot from Jeff at Valley Guns and am in the process of refinishing the stock in a lovely baby doll pink

I'm taking pictures through the build and will post them when after I finish a few steps.

So far the stock has been degreased, sanded and has a primer coat on it.

Well done! I did something similar for my son (who is now 9). Took a Cooey Model 39 and shortened the stock and painted it in camo. He and his little sister love it! They find a bolt a bit hard to ####, which is fine by me as I am there to help.

Here is a pic of my daughter (who was 6 at the time) shooting the Model 39.

Your daughter will love the ACE and will have very fond memories of it forever!

Well it's all done. There are three coats of primer, one coat of baby pink and two of laquer.

This is going to be picture heavy just because I can lmao.

Here is the gun stripped.

White nail polish for the rear sight. The tape on the rear sight was there from Bubba before me lol.

Looks awesome! How does your little girl like it so far??

Were you planning on refinishing the blueing eventually as well or as long as it's pink, you're daughter will love it anyways? :D

Always good to see the young getting into shooting sports, I can't wait for my little girl to get old enough to shoot. But I truly belive that it is a dying sport unfortunately.

Well she saw it and shot it for the first time today. She definetly loves the color and I think will become very much addicted to the sport.

I'm not going to screw with the bluing on this thing, it's probably over fifty years old. And as a child's gun is going to get beat up anyway.

She's also a lefty but they are really hard to find in kids sizes so she's learning the old fashioned way and shooting a righty gun lefty lol. If you're thinking about it for your little ones I have to say just do it. Took me a little bit of time but the smile on her face is worth it.

Yep....She had a smile from ear to ear. And very enthused about shooting it. It won't be long before you hear "Dad when can we go shoot my new gun again?"

Great times. Glad I could be a part of it.

I have a six and eight year old, I just purchased a orange henry and a pink thumbhole savage. They both love them running cb shorts and I got ahold of some aguila's that are those super quiet ones. It is no noisier than an air rifle with the aguila.
Two moe people hooked.. and they are girls!

Lucky kids! All i got was a pellet gun when i was a kid and it had to stay at the cottage.:)
Good on all you parents for getting them into shooting so young. I bet they love you for it.

Good to see more kids getting involved and loving the sport. I started my 6 yr old boy off at a very young age and now he begs me to go to the range, he has his own cartridge collection and looks at them almost daily now. Just waiting for my daughter to get old enough then I'll get the "pink" gun ready....

On your 39, did you strip the old stain off first or just prime over and paint???

Good Job !!!

I bought my daughter a Mini Bolt this year and she loves shooting it. To keep it more fun I set up different sized balloons at 50yrds for her to shoot instead of regular paper targets.

We had cabbages and some orange clays. There was also a shot up old propane tank that would ring when struck.
