A while ago I was given a crudded up bolt action .22 that looked like it was painted by a blind 4 year old with tar. I never paid any mind to it until recently. I bead blasted the crap off it, and scrubbed the crud out of the barrel. Luckily the thick coat of lead fouling protected the bore quite nicely. So it turns out I've got a Cooey Ace. It seems to work fine, and it's just missing the rear sight (dovetail). What were they originally equipped with for a rear sight? Are there any dovetail sights recommended? Does the ACE have a model # or is it just called the "ACE"? Are there parts available for them anywhere? Numrich has Cooey bits listed under Winchester, but not for the Ace specifically. The stock's rough so it'd be nice to find another if possible.

One other thing, you have to #### the bolt manually after the bolt is closed. It seems to me if a groove was machined on the back edge of the bolt's front part, the trigger sear would catch it and #### on it's own when the bolt is locked forward. Has anybody done this, or is there a reason not to?

A neat wee rifle nonetheless. Taking it out for a few targets tonight to see what it does.
 
I have seen Cooey bolts altered so they #### on closing. Is it a good idea? I don't know.
Is the rear sight dovetail in the receiver ring? If so, the sight was a little one piece pressing, the leaf being punched up from the base.
If the dovetail is in the barrel, a block was installed, and a stamped rear sight with notched elevation slide was screwed to it.
Don't think there is a model number, it is just an ACE.
 
Yeah, on second thought, I'm not going to bother playing with the bolt.
The dovetail's on the receiver, it just occurred to me, the barrel mounted flip up sight on a std 10/22 might fit.
 
There is an ACE 1 (17" barrel) and ACE 3 (20") barrel. Tiriaq described the sight perfectly.

The separate cocking was meant as a safety feature, there is also a half #### safety. The trigger provides the feel that set the standard for all other triggers with its smoothness, crispness and lightness of operation - maybe not.
 
If its marked ACE it is likely the 1927-28 version. The dovetail on the end of the receiver could be for a folding peep sight. If you can find one its nice to keep original. No the ruger sight will not work. Please don't put anything labeled ruger even close to the cooey------Cowboy

It's an ACE I, just got back from the range and it's actually pretty accurate!
Tough without a rear sight though. Anybody know the production years for them? There's no ser# on it so I have know idear where to start.
Oh, and if anyone can shoot me a pic if the rear sight assy, that would be swell.
 
cooey ace parts

i think i have a sight and an extra stock the stock is probably no better than yours but it never hurts to have a spare for an old gun.they tend to split at the takedown screw let me know if you are interested, they will be cheap.my brother still has my dads. it was his first gun he gat it when he was 6 in 1936 and i shot it when i was 5 in 1968 it still shoots great and when i was little it was a ##### to pull back the cocking knob.

That's kind of funny! It brought back a long forgotten memory. That was the guage as to whether or not I could shoot. As soon as I could #### it, I was in!
