Has anyone ever scoped one of these? I assume there isn't a way, but I thought I would make sure

in order for it to be done correctly the gun has to be level and in the right rotation...these tools are at a gunsmith. Drilling and tapping costs about $60. very easy to screw it up yourself. i am sorry if i misled, should have said that i had the holes drilled professionally. but i meant that the gun can be scoped.

I have seen model 75s that were drilled but not a 39 unless a previous owner ( if there was one) had it done. But same thing..... with drilling and tapping proper placement of the holes.

I dunno man, I can't see a way of doing it at home and not messing it up.

That's just me, though.

There are side mounted rails out there that you can bolt on to this firearm by screwing it into the side of the stock, but I think that would spoil the look of your rifle.

Taking it to a gunsmith, like Winnipeg Toymaker suggested is an idea that seems to have the least potential for damaging the rifle.

I will definitely take it to a gunsmith If I decide to do it. Ill probably just use the open sights for a while as I am hoping to pick up a LRPV in a .223 in the spring.

Good idea to keep it as is.....there are lots of.22s out there that are or can be scoped as they are. Save the 39 as a child's gun as being a single shot, they are safer for the beginners as they do not automatically reload nor have the capability to be reloaded by moving the bolt..

I have a Cooey 75 that I wanted to scope.I asked our local gunsmith and he suggested putting it in his milling machine and putting groves in it to clamp the scope to.He said the side mount style sucks. So cost is probably the deciding factor here.

I think with what little metal is around the top of the bolt area, that grooving would weaken it more. The 4 little holes near the bottom of the left side of the action should make little difference. the side mount is odd but very functional and also a stock factory option. the originals can be found and they do look much better than the two piece ones that are available.

Also a gunsmith that turns down a job that a customer wants done, because HE thinks the mount sucks...sure does not want business. IMHO

Scoping a 39 isn't worth the expense. Epp's wants $15 per hole plus $15 for the set up. (They're listing a 39 at $99.) $65 to put in the grooves for a .22 scope.

I would much prefer a gunsmith who points out potential flaws with what I want based on his experience rather than taking my money and doing whatever I ask because he's hungry for business.

I ran into a gunsmith already in Dugald, whom which I will NEVER deal with again due to his appetite for business and taking peoples money instead of doing good work and showing his experience. My first experience with him was good, second one pissed me off, third one I walked away from before getting the work done as his shadyness was really starting to show.

I do not understand what a potential flaw is when installing a side mount...the similar rifles...Model 75 and the 60 and 600...came factory drilled and tapped....Why weren't these grooved? Potential hazard? Not enough metal? We will never know, but with the lack of metal already in the action, I personally would not remove any more. Because his opinion was " it sucks" is not a potential flaw.

I've drilled and tapped a couple Cooey 60s and it's very straight forward if you can drill a hole within .010" of where it's supposed to be.
