While not being any kind of expert, I have owned many Cooeys over time, and still have most of them. The model 55 is new to me, never saw one before far as I know.
Some research shows they were produced from 1938 to '45. I note the LOP is about 12 inches, whereas all the Model 39s and 75s I have measure 13 inches.
After digging around, the sights are apparently Mossberg No 4.

Rifle was found in my Dads basement, sans bolt, and as he is experiencing some dementia, he has no recollection where it came from. I have lots of old Cooey parts and have gotten a bolt to fit. While still having a little extraction trouble, the old girl is shooting and I will have the sights lined up soon.

Good find!
Picked up a 55 a few years ago.
The Walnut stock was painted black and the barrel an olive green...but all the parts were there.

Cleaned it up and made it look perddy.

Never saw or heard of a 55 either but I am not very well versed in Cooeys. Looks like it will be a heck of a shooter with those sites though. Is that a heavy contour barrel on it? It’s looks thicker than ones I’ve seen before could just be the picture though. Glad you were able to get a bolt fitted, thanks for sharing.

HuskyDude, looks like all that paint kept it in good condition for you!
Are used to have a really nice Cooey 600 it was probably one of the most accurate rifles I’ve ever owned although unfortunately I was young and it wasn’t cool so I sold it. I haven’t found another one that shoots the same.

I was doing some research on cooey's and they made hundreds of variants of the rimfire and shotgun to sell to third parties like Eaton's and Sears. Very cool I have never seen a mod 55.

Here's a few...

Someone grabbed all the stamps at the factory and stamped a piece of brass.
Would be nice to have in the collection, but for now just a pic will have to suffice.

It's basically a bit more of an upgraded model 39, longer barrel and longer stock. Most parts are interchangeable which is the nice part of cooeys.

For anyone interested in Cooeys this little publication of 32 pages will tell you just about everything you might want to know about the company, its founders and the numerous firearms produced.

I picked it up at gun show several years ago for $5. It's still available on Amazon albeit a little more expensive now.

I have a nice model 55 in the collection. As mentioned, the Mossberg sights are not original to your gun. You want a hard to find Cooey, try finding a model 35 pump or the extremely rare Bisely Sport!!

Ah c'mon, those were not that hard to find. Now the Cadet Mk C is another story my friend.

Clay, do you have any pics of the Mk C? Or are they identical to the 82 beside being marked "Cadet" instead of 82?

Found this interesting too.

Nothing like the 82, it's described pretty well in the cooey book. I know a guy that actually handed a cadet at one point so I know they are out there somewhere.
