Cooey Model 60 barrel question

Remove all protruding screws..... then there is nothing but a tight fit holding it in the action. Make a flat faced mandrel that will fit easily into the action and long enough to stick out the end a few inches. Make a bushing that the barrel will just slip though and stop on the front of the action........

holding the bushing in a vice tap the barrel out using the mandrel.

Why do you want to remove your barrel? If it needs to be replaced get a whole barrel receiver combination, they don't just screw out and a new one screws in easily.

The reason I want to remove my barrel is for refinishing purposes. I'm doing a complete re-build and I'll be sending the barrel away for a nickel finish. The reciever will be re-blued or chromed and a custom stock made by me will be constructed. It's a personal project that I thought I'd try prior to having a more expensive gun re-done. Thanks for the interest in my little project,

In my experience the Cooey Model 60 has the action heat shrunk over the breech end of the barrel and I have never been able to separate them without damaging either the action or the barrel.
Modify your plan a bit and have the barrel and the action refinished as a unit. Save your self a lot of headaches.

Not saying this to create a controversy, but using the exact system Dennis described, I have taken apart at least 5 M60 Cooey 22's without any damage to the barrel or receiver. Perhaps some are shrunk on, but obviously not all. Regards, Eagleye.

Well, I had a model 60 I was going to part out so I tried to remove the barrel as described. No luck. Could not get any movement in spite of a very heavy hammer. The cross pin that holds the barrel and receiver together is driven into a blind hole on this particular rifle so no way to remove it. Perhaps this is the problem.
