I bought a cooey model 60 copy (mercury) this weekend and the old guy that sold it to me failed to mention it does not feed or eject worth a damb. It appears to have very little use, could it be that the ejecter clip on the bolt is too tight? I bought this for my daughter and would like to get it working as well as my old beater cooey 60. Help.

Hmmmmm..... Let me consult my crystal ball... LoL :needPics: Can you post some pics of the Cooey, and some pics of the bolt and it's feeding/ejection components? Pretty please... haha;) Would help a bit if we could see the components, in case we see something you may have missed..

I've had a couple that didn't feed or eject properly due to "crud" between the bolt and the "shell holder ring" (that's my technical term for it :p ) a very thorough cleaning with brake cleaner and some 100 psi air got things cleaned up and fixed my problems. Usually too "loose" is a bigger problem than too tight for those clips in my experience.

Also, get a set of small picks, or a finishing nail and pliers, and check around the barrel where those clips are supposed to ride ... any buildup in thereof "crud" will open them when the bolt is closed and cause a fail to eject.

Maybe take the feeding tube push rod apart and clean all the crap and corruption in there
too. Could flaw the spring push on the wiggley thing on the end that pushes the ammo
up into the receiver.
It could be that the stock to action screw adjustment is out.
The mag tube needs to move back and forth with the bolt movement.
If too loose, it may cause feeding problems????
Too tight will cause hardship working the bolt.
Photos of the bolt face would also help.
And not just a straight on shot either.
Need to see the distance between the bolt and the hooks, so to speak.

got the same problem. a good cleaning ant it should work better. i also find that some brand of ammo load better then others. remington is ugly and cil work fine.

I believe those model 60 cooeys are designed to feed from the magazine and not be fed individualy. Feeding them individualy buggers up those 2 little extractor hooks and then you can have some real problems with them.

If it has the band around the end of the bolt (closest to the bolt face) the "fingers" get bent easily. Less than perfect alignment and they will not feed the round.

(If I'm thinking of the right model)

For feeding issues too with the model 60, pop the stock off and make sure the reataining stud/nut of the feed tube assembly is not over tight and causing unintended friction... Havoc can be wreaked with this small adjustment... but do disassemble and clean clean CLEAN IT! My Cooeys can fire all day long, but once they get dirty it just turns into a sh-it show of FTE's ....

You are correct Willy... Good advice..

here's a video that covers rather quickly, the Model 60's mechanism and adjustment...

Gmtech, if that was you that did that video then I commend you on great timing, good presentation and wonderful speaking. Simply a superb video with great camera and voice over work.

If it wasn't you then I suspect it was narrated by a proffesional announcer. Yes, it was THAT good.

Thanks for all replies. I will give it a good cleaning tonight and see if that works. I guess I did not think of that because my other model 60 is my truck gun on the farm and never gets cleaned (hanging head in shame). It has never let me down. The action to stock screw is not to tight or to loose. I have been loading it all down the tube and that end is all feeding properly. The best way I can describe it is the stamped steel plate that pushes the round up into the bolt face often slides up the side of the round rather than push up on the bottom of it.

I had put this gun away for a long time, no time to work on it. I had it out this weekend and I finally got it fixed. It turns out the "ejector clip"? , not sure of the proper part name, was nearly touching the bolt face on one side. I removed the "ejector clip" and gently persauded it so that the gap would be even. I put it back together and it feeds fine now.

Does anyone know any history on the Mercury labled Cooey model 60?
