amoung them was a Cooey model 60 it taught about 3 generations of my family to shoot .....i know its not worth much but i want to continue it with an upgrade

it accurate what do i do about mounts and scope for this piece of heritage ?

BTW after a a nice stripping, polishing and oiling she looks almost brand new

I have 2 of those Cooeys. I love them. The easiest way is to get a weaver #2 or a #5 (IIRC) side mount. It was made specifically for the Cooey 60. The other way to get my 1" tube scope mounted was to get a Weaver "tip off" mount. They're the ones that swing out of the way to use your iron sights. Mount it on the side using the proper holes, mount your scope approx top dead center and shoot @25 yards. Then go back to 50 yards and adjust your elevation, if there is a shift to one side or the other, then adjust the mount. Keep doing this until you can go back to 75 yards with the only shift in impact is the height. Now you know that you have top dead center. Then I drilled a tiny hole across the hinges to lock it into place using roll pins. I recommend using method #1 as method #2 drove me nearly insane. If you need more info on the side mount, let me know. I'll check to see the correct #. These mounts will only mount .22 scopes. Good luck.

I had a fixed 4x scope on mine in the weaver sidemount rings and base. it was very very accurate rifle, and slayed many hares and gophers inside the 100yrd mark. if your cooey is not drilled and tapped for these (you can look off to the left side of the action for some holes) most gunsmiths will have a the propper jig. inexpensive work. install base and rings, mount scope and sight in. no screwing around.

oh yeah, and tip-off mounts are the biggest peices of #### you can waste your money on. avoid at all costs. a fixed 2.5 or 4x scope is fine up close, never needed my opensights.
