Does anybody know where I can get a Cooey model 60 Takedown guide. I was given this rifle and it is in pretty bad shape in its functioning, the barrel is ok and I can rebulid the stock, but the bolt keeps pulling out and won't close either. The tube magazine is very lose and there is no rod for the magazine. I can take it apart thats no problem, but I don't know if there are parts missing or wrecked because I have nothing to compare it to. I looked all over the internet and checked with winchester, lakefield and savage, but with no luck. Any info would be a great help, this firearm has been in the family for years and I would like to get it functioning so I can pass it down. Thanks

The Model 60 was the very first firearm that I ever owned; I still have the same one 45 years later.

The machined metal piece at the end of the magazine has a lip that rides in a notch on the bottom front of the bolt. The main stock bolt serves a dual function. It must be screwed in far enough to stop the magazine assembly from dropping down out of engagement, but not so tight as to bind. The flat hex nut locks this into position. The remainder of the stud protrudes down through the stock, where it engaged by the captive knurled nut.

The 600 is essentially the same, except the front and rear magazine bands are retained by dovetails in the bottom of the barrel rather than being soldered on asin the 60. The priciple is exactly the same though.

Try Irv at Western Gun Parts for the correct magazine insert.

Take a look at the Savage website and their online user guide section. They manufacture a model which is almost identical to the Cooey except for the safety. I used this guide to take apart my trusty old Cooey.
