Cooey Model 710

A buddy has one in .270 win, has taken countless moose and deer by him, 2 bears and a mule dear by me.

shoots strait, pretty plane looking.

does it's job.

WRL = WR Long, gunsmith in Cobourg ON? Shop was right beside the W-W Canada plant. Was the 710 in production in Apr 78? The WRL, Apr 78 and .22/250 WIN. are all done with single letter stamps. Just wondering if the rifle was rebarrelled with a 710 barrel.
These rifles were made in .225 Win., don't know if they were made in .22/250, and is there any such thing as .22/250 "WIN"?
Rembo - Cooey 71/710s have a tubular receiver, sandwiched recoil lug and a simplified Win 70 style bolt.

Wow! Funny how things work. 1899 posts about his first rifle and on the same day this post come up. Back in the very early 80's my father gave me a cooey model 71 in .270, I was around 10 or so. Shot lots of deer with that old girl, I never should have sold it.

WR Long still in business.
Son Keith now operates out of a new location, since moving from Cobourg:

WR Long Ltd

Bewdley, ON K0L 1E0

(905) 797-2700

Talk to Keith, he can probably shed some light on this one.

I got one in 225.Its not fancy but does shoot like a champ.
As for the 22/250Win stamping I would say a company fluke. One of my friends has a 760Rem in 6mm that has 6mm Rem Mag stamped on barrel.

All the model 71's and 710's have the same construction...round receiver like a 700 Remmy, with the recoil lug similar also. The lug is thinner than a stock 700 lug, and the bolt is like an M70 Winchester without the safety, and the trigger assy is pure M70. I have owned several over the years. They were aimed at the economy market of the time, but were usually respectable shooters. If one rebarrels with a custom barrel, it's a good idea to have the barrel restamped with the model, or, better yet, stamp the receiver with the model number. Regards, Eagleye.

Thanks for the information! My dad bought this gun a few years ago. I have no idea if the barrel & reciever are original, the only marking on the receiver is a 4 digit serial number. I doubt they are, because the stock covers the "Cooey Model 710" stamp completely. If I were to guess I'd say the stock isn't original either. I can post some more pics of it if anybody wants.

I just bought one in 30-06 last month. Hopefully I'll get out to the range with it soon. Not this weekend though, I'm installing a new front window in my house instead.

I would think your 710 was originaly a 225 win and was rechambered by Longs to 22/250. I have a 225 that the stock was altered and when I showed it to Keith he said in was one that they had done. I will print the pictures and will probably see him next weekend and show him and see what he says.
