I was wondering if a Cooey Model 84 work well as a trap gun for a newbie. How is the accuracy and recoil on the gun? Are they dependable? Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

They are dependable and may work okay for starting out but if you are doing a lot of shooting I don't know how long it will last before you shoot it loose. Remember this gun was probably used quite a bit already and they weren't really designed as a gun to shoot a few thousand rounds per year. Plus they are not very heavy so even with light trap loads your shoulder is going to know it after a couple of rounds of trap. But if you want to use it to see if you like trap, then go ahead and try it.

It will go bang, it will fire pellets, and it should be able to hit where you are pointing it.

That being said, I wouldn't want to shoot more than one round with it. It really isn't suited to lots of shooting.

Recoil may effect your shooting over the course of a few rounds, otherwise, what others have said.....If you shoot alot of Trap, I believe it will wear and give trouble fairly quickly.

It would work but wouldn't be my choice for a newbie. They are light guns that often don't have recoil pads. Throw in inexperience, poor stance, etc and it's a combination that may kick the snot out of a new shooter and turn him off the sport entirely.

I agree. There are better choices for someone starting out. Don't get it just because it's cheap.
