As the title states, I’m looking for information on a permanent solution to tightening up the connection of the forend to the barrel.
I have an old Cooey Model 84 (unsure of exact age due to lack of information, but it has a serial stamped on the side of the receiver) that I inherited and I wanted to repair. I stripped the old chipped and worn varnish, refinished the wood surface, and treated the wood with a light coat of stain followed by two treatments of linseed oil.
The forend was surprisingly loose and could be removed with minimal force. My temporary solution was to shim the forend spring tab with brass shims where it makes contact with the lug on the barrel. I used four strips of 0.002” brass folded over the tip of the spring and it seems to have snugged up the fit. But it’s far from completely secure.
If anyone here has any experience or information that could help it would be greatly appreciated.
