Does anyone have a sense of whether or not cooey rear aperture sights are tough to find? im looking to put one on a model 82 that im thinking of buying and need to factor this into my decision... to purchase this one that is not already equipped with one, or wait and try to find one that already has the aperture sight?

Also how do those peep sights work? do they allow wind and elevation adjustments?

The base is slotted to allow simple windage adjustment. The vertical is slotted and it and the aperture nut have index marks for elevation adjustment. Simple but effective, used to be $9 at gunshows, now could be $30.

Every once in awhile a fellow has the Cooey peep sights on ebay. He had one 2 weeks ago that sold for $30.00, the one before that went for $50.00 so it depends on the day. But, some model 82's never had the peep sight even though the slot is there for it. Some had a cover over the slot from factory which was often lost.
If the gun is the mannlicher model and in good condition, I would not let the missing peep sight stop me from buying it if it is a decent price. Hard to find a good condition model 82 mannlichere for under $200.00.

I bought it! it's in 85-90% condition, all original and C broadarrow marked on top and serial number stamped under the pistol grip. And like you said, i was told this one is a military trainer that was kept in an armoury until a few years ago and never had the peep sight to begin with, but it does have the sight blank, and full stock wood with good tight bands, everything is solid with no missing pieces. As a bonus the guy also has a peep he is going to sell me, but i think i might put it on my 75... That gun is getting a refinishing, and the peepsight apparently is in grease packing still from the cooey factory, so it will look more at home on a nice flashy rifle! :p
