My father in-law is bringing a cooey .22 He says it has a clip. I myself have never seen any other than .22 single shots. Can anybody shed some light on this possibility?
Thanks In Advance

I have 6 Cooey 64s and they are semi automatics. They have a metal mag and magwell shaped like an old skeleton keyway. Most you find are 40-50 years old and still cycling fine.

They have to be cleaned periodically and will operate fine til they build up powder residue again. Simple and easy to disassemble and reassemble.

The bolt type Cooeys seem care free...seldom any problems and all are accurate for their job. Enjoy your gun.... shooting can be very rewarding.

Got a cooey model 60 myself, which is one of the tube-fed varieties. One thing I can say about it is that it is utterly reliable with any type of ammo I have ever tried. If they were still in manufacture, I would buy another one in a heartbeat. Only down side is the stupid side-mount scope arrangement. So I keep mine open sighted and got a savage MKII for my scoped .22 needs. :)

"...have a metal mag..." It's scary how pricey they've gotten too. $17.65US from Gunparts.
Cooey also made centrefire rifles. 'Copies' of lower end Winchesters mostly.

Didn't the earlier Cooey 64s (64A?) have a plastic magazine? If I recall correctly they are kept on the same shelf as the hen's teeth in stores. The magazine for the later 64 (64B?) is cast metal and the same as the Lakefield semi autos. Very easy to find.

The first model 64s had the plastic mag...I have one. When the plastic mags began to give problems, then Cooey came out with the 64A which had the metal mag and well. I also have a couple of these as well as a Lakefield 64B and Sears 8C (64C) There were many more models made for different companies, much like the model 60s that were 600s, Rangers etc.sold by Eatons, Macleods etc.

many of the model 64s I have come across have already been converted to metal. Plastic mags are hensteeth.I saw one on here just within the last 2 days. with a plastic mag.

Canadian Tire has mags as well...........................Harold

Where are these magical Crappy tire stores that sell guns and magazines and have a full stock of ammo?? I don't think they exist east of quebec, probably more like east of alberta.

Cooey never made a firearm with a clip. As a matter of fact they never made a semi-auto 22. They did have one on the drawing board but it did not come out until after Hubert Cooey died. After his sons death Herbert then near 80 decided to sell to Winchester. April of 61 he sold out and the 64 was not available till late 63, early 64 thus the model number 64.------Cowboy

I also own a model 60

My model 60 was a hand me down, that was in a sorry state when I aquired it.
a few evenings of cleaning polishing, relubing and it is a tack driver. I agree with the stupid side scope mount, but I found a nice scope that fits..(had a mount already..but scope was damaged.
I even polished the feeder tube, refinished the stock... and chrome plated the outside of the barrel, bolt knob and trigger guard..
It is quite a conversation piece, and it shoots/feeds anything. Shorts, LR, CB... perfect gopher gun. :sniper:

Either way $15-$25 for a clip for an out of production rifle doesnt sound that bad to me.

The rifle isn't out of production, Savage is still making them as the 64G.

I seem them at gun shows for $30(the magazine)... so much for finding deals.
