Hello folks!!

So a friend of mine bought what he says is a Cooey Ranger 22 (I haven't seen the rifle in person). Upon his first outing with it, he was experiencing misfires and concluded that the firing pin was worn. Once home he removed the bolt from the rifle and tried to disassemble it at which time he broke the alignment stud off the bolt. Instead of tinkering with it further, he brought it to me and asked if I could address his issues. Wouldn't you know it, I broke the darn spring extractor AND it flew across the shop to be forever lost in the abyss. Now I am in the market for some Cooey Ranger 22 parts. I understand that the Ranger was a brand name used by Sears (if memory serves)? Does the Cooey Ranger 22 go by any other names that I may reference while looking for parts?

I have a couple of Cooey Model 600 rifles laying around and I figured I would see if I could just swap the bolt out for him in the mean time and get him back out into the field however, the bolts are very different. While the general design is the same, the model 600 has a much larger diameter bolt and the spring extractors are very different (see attached photo for size reference - not a great shot of the extractors).

Does anyone have a good reliable source for Cooey parts? I'd like to get this Ranger 22 bolt fixed and out of my hair so I can get on with my own headaches... I appreciate all the help I can get.

Cheers!!

My research leads me to believe that the follow all share a bolt (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong):

Cooey Ranger 22
Cooey model 39
Cooey model 75
Cooey model 750

I've located a replacement bolt. Buying it today.

I haven't been around the CGN forum much lately but I have to say - its still the best resource for firearms info, transactions and its made up of some of the greatest folks in the shooting sports!! I love this place and value it greatly!!

Thanks everyone!
- Cheers

That bolt looks exactly like the bolt on my old Cooey-made 22 marked “Rabbit”.

*Please promise me you will check the headspace on your rifle first my friend, before firing it with the new bolt installed.

The Ranger were house branded Cooey rifles made for Eatons department stores. The Cooey bolts are very hard to take apart and reassemble. Your friend likely only needed to flush out the bolt internals as years of crud can slow up the firing pins in them. Just use brake cleaner or Outers Crud Cutter or similar product while working the front and rear bolt halves. Blow it out with compressed air and lightly lube will solve most Cooey single shot bolt problems and replacing the extractor with a new one will solve most of the ejection issues. Cooey made house branded rifles for many different stores during their time in business. The ones made for Sears were branded Sure Shot.
