I have acquired a Cooey 82 and it doesn't extract properly.

The extractor was bent, so I replaced it with a new one.
However it still does not extract when i pull back on the bolt handle.
Curiously, if I pull straight back on the cocking knob on the very end of the bolt, it extracts and ejects properly.

I have 2 very short videos (3 seconds) that clearly show this however I cannot attach them here.

I would greatly appreciate any help resolving this.

My old SureShot was the same. Worn extractor was the first suspect. Then it appeared that a lifetime of shooting 22 shorts had fouled the front of the chamber such that 22 LR cases would stick. So you might try some shorts to see if they extract properly. Then soak/ rotary brush/ polish that chamber to remove fouling. I use naptha for such tasks but some think that stuff is too volatile..lol. Check for swelled cases too...chamber may have opened up..Also try a few different brands as suggested above...mine loved Stingers... would extract them like crazy.

Struff nailed it. If you were to put a finger on the front of the bolt as it turns, the extractor will most likely work.
Tried that- didn’t work

Here’s a picture of the extractor pulling a shell out- which it always does if I pull the bolt back from the very back -you can see where my fingers are

the bolt is worn at the centre point joint it is non reparable the front of the bolt head moves to one side
i'm sure the experts will give quick fixes it's 69+ years old
o i did winchester and cooey repair for 20 years
just saying
good luck
This. It is not entirely irreparable. A good cleaning might help. You could peen the bolt body to fit a bit tighter. If you could find a bolt out of a less used gun it might solve the problem assuming the head spacing was okay. You could also just sorta put some curve on your grip when you cycle the action(as if you were pulling straight back on the striker)

With the bolt all the way back if you grab the back of the assembly, how much play is there side to side? Is it like any other rifle or is it like a mosin nagant?

Is the extractor just skipping off the cartridge rim at some point or not grabbing at all? Or is it ejecting the casing before it reaches the ejector and causing a jam? If the bolt and receiver are not worn and you had to replace the extractor because of something with a previous owner, is there a spring under the extractor on those? That should be replaced also and is the channel that it goes in full of shmoo?

If it just needs a bit more purchase on the rim and the spring is fine and the channel is clean, it wouldn’t hurt to try heating and bending it a bit. Is it held in with a pin? If so, did you reuse the original pin? If original does it seem worn and if you replaced the pin are you sure it is the exact correct diameter? If not, it would cause the new extractor to ride a bit further from the rim

The old extractor was bent
I cleaned out the hole before I put the new one in
It’s not hard to replace the extractor- 2 min job - pull old one out and push new one in

Here’s a picture of the old and new extractors
